George Nitzburg, The Tech Shrink

Dr. George Nitzburg holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, where he researches and teaches about how to marshal technological advances to improve our understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness. He has also conducted psychotherapy and psychological testing in both inpatient and outpatient settings with patients of all ages and backgrounds. 

Research

Dr. George Nitzburg leads a Columbia University research team investigating the effectiveness of telemental health platforms for administering distance psychotherapy, psychological interventions, and continuing care. His research lab also studies how online interactions alter our communication patterns and interpersonal relationships.

Lab

The Psychotherapy, Technology, & Disclosure Laboratory at Teachers College, Columbia University, is led by Dr. Barry A. Farber. Dr. Farber, a faculty member in the Clinical Psychology program at Teachers College, has conducted a range of psychotherapy research over the course of his career.  

The Psychotherapy, Technology & Disclosure Laboratory is currently conducting research in four primary areas: a) the intersection of computer-mediated communication, disclosure, and the formation of romantic relationships; b) secrets and lying in psychotherapy; c) the experiences and perceptions of beginning psychotherapists; and d) the nature of positive regard in psychotherapy and elsewhere.
